about

The ‘Roots of L.A.Byrne’ is my first collaboration with singer and lyricist Luke Alexander Byrne. We have been friends for over 15 years stretching back to our time at York college. Luke had been living in Sweden for 5 years when I asked him join me here in Copenhagen to work on a debut album. This collection of songs explores his early time in Copenhagen, the roots of where we came from and to some extent a feeling of uncertainty with 'Brexit' on the horizon.

Influenced by modern hiphop, Luke brought spoken word to the table, which was something new for me. It felt natural to go a little more urban in production, creating a broken beat, even garage vibe to go along with Luke's rhythmic vocal.

These are the first moments of exploration with Luke and over the next year we dig deeper into his story, pathing the way towards our debut album: ‘Who do you want to be - L.A.Byrne?’

about

Retro Kid Copenhagen, Denmark

Retro Kid is UK-born electronic producer Jake Juba.

Living in Copenhagen’s diverse Nørrebro district, Jake has worked with a range of different vocalists to produce an electronic interpretation of their stories.
Using breakbeat rhythms, wonky synths and lo-fi samples, Retro Kid’s music smashes together many genres, to find a sweet spot between IDM and soul which he calls melancholy funk.
